KATHMANDU: Minister for Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation, Badri Prasad Pandey, emphasized the government’s commitment to enhancing air safety in Nepal.

Speaking at a meeting of the House of Representatives’ International Relations and Tourism Committee, he expressed concern over the recent air crashes in the country.

Minister Pandey informed the Committee that he, along with senior officials from the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN), inspected the crash site at Suryachaur in Nuwakot.

It is believed that the Air Dynasty helicopter crashed while attempting to return to Kathmandu due to poor weather conditions.

The Minister announced the formation of a three-member investigation commission, led by Nepali Army Senior Captain Subas Thapa, to uncover the facts surrounding the accident.

He expressed confidence that the commission would reveal the true cause of the crash.

Additionally, Minister Pandey shared that preparations are underway to develop an action plan to address issues within the entire aviation sector.

The plan will include short-term, medium-term, and long-term strategies to ensure air safety.

CAAN Director General Pradip Adhikari informed the Committee that preliminary assessments suggest that the helicopter crash was likely caused by adverse weather conditions.
