Shekhar Koirala questions timing of ambassador recall on eve of PM’s visit



KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress leader Dr. Shekhar Koirala has raised questions about the government’s decision to recall the ambassador, asking whether it was a coincidence or intentional.

He posed this question in a social media post on Saturday morning.

Dr. Koirala mentioned that such actions of significant long-term importance are not part of the government’s regular duties.

He was specifically questioning the decision to recall Nepal’s ambassador to India.

“Is it a coincidence or an intention to recall the ambassador from a country with which we have long-standing close relations, almost two-thirds of our trade, and significant economic, social, and religious ties, on the day the Prime Minister is visiting for the inauguration of the newly elected government?” Koirala asked.

Although he did not mention names, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s swearing-in is scheduled for Sunday. Nepal’s Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ is also set to attend the ceremony.

A few days ago, the cabinet decided to recall ambassadors from 11 countries, including India.
