PM and coalition partners deliberate on strengthening federalism

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ hosted a meeting at his official residence in Baluwatar today, bringing together leaders from the ruling coalition partners to discuss strategies aimed at bolstering federalism in Nepal.

The meeting, attended by prominent figures from various political parties, including Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, NC Vice President and Deputy Prime Minister Purna Bahadur Khadka, CPN (Maoist Centre) Deputy General Secretary Barshman Pun, and CPN (Unified Socialist) Chair Madhav Kumar Nepal, among others, focused on the effective implementation and consolidation of federalism in the country.

The central agenda of the gathering centered on addressing the challenges associated with coordinating efforts among the federal, provincial, and local governments to ensure the smooth functioning of federalism.

The Prime Minister’s Secretariat highlighted the meeting’s emphasis on finding pragmatic solutions to the obstacles hindering the successful implementation of federalism.

Notably, the meeting saw the active participation of all seven Chief Ministers from the provinces, currently convened in Kathmandu for the second meeting of the National Coordination Council.

As Nepal navigates its federal journey, these discussions underscore the commitment of the government and its partners to forge a cohesive approach towards realizing the full potential of federalism for the nation’s development and prosperity.
