EU Ambassador Veronique Lorenzo meets with PM KP Oli



KATHMANDU: Ms. Veronique Lorenzo, Ambassador of the European Union Delegation to Nepal, paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli at his office in Singha Durbar today.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Oli expressed appreciation for the European Union’s support in Nepal’s economic and social development.

He updated Ambassador Lorenzo on ongoing efforts to address transitional justice and finalize the remaining aspects of the peace process, emphasizing that these efforts are based on political agreements.

The Prime Minister mentioned that the bill to amend the Commission on Investigation of Disappeared Persons, Truth and Reconciliation Act-2071 BS is progressing, with a focus on adhering to the Comprehensive Peace Accord (CPA), Supreme Court directives, international standards, and the needs of survivors.

As Nepal and the European Union celebrate 50 years of diplomatic relations, Prime Minister Oli highlighted Nepal’s goal to transition to a developing country status by 2026 and achieve middle-income country status by 2030. He reaffirmed Nepal’s commitment to poverty alleviation, economic development, democracy, and human rights.

Ambassador Lorenzo expressed her hopes for the success of the government’s priorities and wished Prime Minister Oli a successful tenure in office.
