RPP lawmaker Shahi challenges Home Minister, vows garland if GB Rai is arrested

KATHMANDU: Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) lawmaker Gyanendra Shahi has criticized Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane’s claim that the recent government change was driven by his anti-corruption efforts.

Speaking at the House of Representatives meeting on Sunday, Shahi challenged Lamichhane to arrest cooperatives fraud-accused GB Rai within a week, promising to garland the Home Minister if Rai is apprehended.

Shahi expressed disapproval of Lamichhane’s remarks about government change being motivated by fear of exposing files, urging the minister to disclose those files and arrest the culprits within the next seven days.

Criticizing recent developments in parliament, Shahi described the government formation process as a “drama.”

He voiced dissatisfaction over the agreement between the Nepali Congress (NC) and the CPN-UML, claiming that the parliament has become a stage for theatrics.

Shahi highlighted the inconsistency of parties, noting that they fail to deliver while in government but make grand promises once new alliances are formed, often resorting to mutual accusations.

He argued that the frequent changes in government are a result of the current constitution and called for its amendment, emphasizing that political parties are free to alter provisions of the constitution that are not in the nation’s best interest.
