BIRATNAGAR: Nepali Congress (NC) General Secretary Gagan Kumar Thapa has stated that his party is performing a proactive role as the main opposition party in parliament.

Speaking to media persons at Biratnagar Airport today, Thapa clarified that the NC is not engaged in any effort to form a government at present.

“We have no intention of forming a government in partnership with the UML or Maoist Centre. No efforts or dialogues have been initiated in this regard,” Thapa added.

However, the NC General Secretary mentioned that NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba is holding talks with the leadership of the CPN-Maoist Center and CPN-UML to complete the remaining tasks of the peace process and implement the constitution.

On a separate note, Thapa said the general conventions of the party’s sister wings will be held within a month, and the leadership issues will be finalized based on consensus.
