NC accuses govt of protecting Home Minister Lamichhane in fraud case

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress, the main opposition party, accused the government of misusing power and state resources to shield Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane in a cooperative fraud case.

After attending a meeting of key political leaders summoned by Speaker Devraj Ghimire on Tuesday, Ramesh Lekhak, the chief whip of Nepali Congress, asserted that the government was leveraging its authority and resources to protect Lamichhane.

“The investigation conducted by a government institution has already revealed that Rabi, during his tenure as managing director at Gorkha Media Network, obtained loans from cooperatives without following legal procedures,” stated Lekhak.

“There is substantial evidence against Lamichhane in the cooperative fraud case, yet the government is sparing no effort to shield him,” Lekhak emphasized.

He further reiterated that Nepali Congress would not relent on its demand for the formation of a parliamentary committee to investigate Lamichhane’s involvement in the case.
