Sri Lankan national arrested at TIA with 1.3 kilograms of gold



KATHMANDU: Police arrested a Sri Lankan citizen Kantha Matha Kavaskar, 41, at the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) with 1 kilogram and 300 grams of gold.

The arrest took place following Kavaskar’s arrival from Fly Dubai at midnight on Saturday.

During a routine security check at the airport, TIA police chief DIG Arjun Chand Thakuri disclosed that Kavaskar was found in possession of two pieces of gold, each weighing 500 grams and wrapped in plastic.

Additionally, 300 grams of gold was discovered sprayed inside a concealed compartment (undergarment) she was wearing.

The TIA Customs Office initiated a thorough investigation into the matter, aiming to unveil the circumstances surrounding the smuggling attempt.
