Local-level by-elections set for Dec 1 to fill 44 vacant seats



KATHMANDU: By-elections will be held on December 1 to fill vacant local-level positions across the country.

A total of 44 positions remain vacant due to various reasons, including two district coordination committee chiefs, two rural municipality chairpersons, four vice-chairpersons, one mayor, one deputy mayor, and 34 ward chairpersons.

According to the Election Commission (EC), the by-elections will be conducted for a variety of posts.

These include the positions of district coordination committee chief in Okhaldhunga and Kailali, the mayor of Kirtipur Municipality in Kathmandu, and the deputy mayor of Nalgad Municipality in Jajarkot.

By-elections will also be held for chairpersons of several rural municipalities, including Gramthan Rural Municipality in Morang, Mahabu Rural Municipality in Dailekh, Gaurishankar Rural Municipality in Dolakha, Sarkegad Rural Municipality in Humla, and Swamikartik Khapar Rural Municipality in Bajura.

Additionally, elections will take place for ward chairpersons in several municipalities.

These include Siriganga Rural Municipality-3 in Taplejung, Kankai Municipality-6 in Jhapa, Laligurans Municipality-8 in Tehrathum, Gadhi Rural Municipality-6 in Sunsari, Molung Rural Municipality-5 in Okhaldhunga, and Triyuga Municipality in Udayapur.

Ward chair elections will also be held in Belka Municipality-9, Dakneshwari Municipality-1 and 4 in Saptari, Dhanushadham Municipality-1 in Dhanusha, Ramgopalpur Municipality-2 in Mahottari, Ishnath Municipality-7 in Rautahat, Rajpur Municipality-6, and Gadhimai Municipality-8.

Furthermore, by-elections will be conducted for ward chair positions in several additional areas.

These include ward 1 and 4 of Kirtipur Municipality in Kathmandu, ward 16 of Kathmandu Metropolitan City, ward 2 of Kakani Rural Municipality in Nuwakot, ward 12 of Hetauda Municipality in Makawanpur, ward 5 of Gorkha Municipality in Gorkha, ward 1 of Musikot Municipality in Gulmi, and ward 4 of Runtigadhi Rural Municipality in Rolpa.

By-elections will also be held for ward 4 of Thakurbaba Municipality in Bardiya, ward 2 of Putha Uttarganga Rural Municipality in Rukum (East), and ward 1 of Shuddhodhan Rural Municipality in Kapilvastu.
