Nepal Telecommunication Authority lifts ban on TikTok

Sends letters to Internet Service Providers to lift ban

KATHMANDU: The Nepal Telecommunication Authority (NTA) has officially directed all internet and mobile service providers to lift the ban on TikTok.

This decision follows a letter from the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology requesting the removal of the ban.

In response, the Authority instructed service providers to refrain from obstructing TikTok’s operation.

With the ban now lifted, TikTok, which had been inaccessible for an extended period, is once again operational.

The Authority has advised service providers to keep the ban lifted until further notice, in alignment with the cabinet’s decision.

Previously, the Ministry had formally requested the Nepal Telecommunication Authority to end the ban.

Gajendra Kumar Thakur, Spokesperson for the Ministry of Communications, stated, “We had discussions with TikTok representatives on Wednesday and Thursday. After TikTok agreed to comply with all conditions set by the Government of Nepal, the Ministry sent a letter to the Telecommunication Authority to fully reopen TikTok.”
