Hima Rural Municipality declared literate RM



JUMLA: The Hima Rural Municipality in Jumla has been declared literate rural municipality.

Hima has become the first local level to be declared literate among the eight local levels of the district.

According to the statistics published by the rural municipality, the total population of Hima is 12,804 and of them, 12,256 people are literate.

In terms of percentage, 95.72 percent of the citizens are literate while the number of illiterate is 4.28 percent.

Among the literate, 55 have gained master’s degree and 155 have graduate degree.

Among the adults, 1,660 people are literate while 5,370 people of school-going age are literate, said Laxman Shahi, chairperson of Hima rural municipality.

This is the outcome of the investment made by Hima RM in the education sector, said Bijaya Budha, Minister of Water Resources and Energy Development of the Karnali Province Government.

Education should be a special priority area for the province government. Chief of District Coordination Committee in Jumla, Gaurinanda Acharya, said that Hima has achieved a significant feat by declaring itself literate.

Chief Administrative Officer of Hima RM, Rana Bahadur Budha, said that 33 percent of Hima RM budget is being invested in the education sector every year.
