KATHMANDU: A meeting of the Nepali Congress (NC) Parliamentary Party has decided to implement the agreement reached with the CPN (UML) for forming a new government.

NC Chief Whip Ramesh Lekhak informed the media that today’s meeting endorsed the recent agreement between the two parties.

He stated that the new government would be formed as per Article 76 (2) of the Constitution.

“Today’s meeting of the NC parliamentary party has welcomed and endorsed the decision to form a national consensus government,” Lekhak said, adding that the new government would prioritize protecting national interests, controlling corruption, making the national economy functional, and amending the constitution.

Lekhak emphasized the need to amend the constitution to strengthen and make the present system of governance more inclusive.

He reiterated that the next government would work with commitment to addressing the issues of constitution amendment, federal democratic republic governance, and inclusiveness.

According to the agreement between the Nepali Congress and the CPN-UML, it has been decided that the government will first be led by CPN (UML) Chair KP Sharma Oli, followed by NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba.

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ is preparing to seek a vote of confidence in the House of Representatives on July 12.

In this context, the meeting directed all NC lawmakers to attend and vote against the PM’s move, Chief Whip Lekhak stated.
