Home Minister emphasizes rapid response to disaster risks, orders evacuations

KATHMANDU: Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane has directed the concerned authorities to immediately relocate households vulnerable to disaster to safer locations.

During an emergency meeting held at the Home Ministry today, Home Minister Lamichhane instructed high-level officials and chiefs of security agencies to promptly address disaster-related incidents, fulfilling the state’s responsibilities.

The security agencies briefed the Home Minister about the current situation.

DPM Lamichhane urged the Command Post and respective District Administration Offices to prevent the loss of lives and property and ensure the availability of food and clothing for disaster victims.

“Our duty is not fulfilled by merely relaying information about the losses to the general public. It’s crucial how we carry out activities to reduce losses,” he stressed.

“Now is the time to implement disaster preparedness plans, directives, and procedures in practice.”

DPM Lamichhane also explained that political parties and respective bodies had already been urged to support the implementation of disaster preparedness measures.

Home Secretary Ek Narayan Aryal, Inspector General of Nepal Police Basanta Bahadur Kunwar, Inspector General of the Armed Police Force Raju Aryal, and high-ranking officials of the Nepali Army were present at the meeting.
