Police receive 5,300 complaints on cooperatives-related fraud

KATHMANDU: The Nepal Police has reported the registration of 5,300 complaints related to cooperative issues.

During a parliamentary investigation committee meeting held at Singha Durbar on Friday, police officials informed that so far, 5,300 complaints have been registered concerning the misuse of cooperative funds.

Quoting the police data, Committee Chair Surya Thapa stated that 55,410 victims have filed complaints, with claims amounting to Rs 11.66 billion.

Police have arrested 294 suspects, while 856 remain at large.

In the same meeting, police officials indicated that they are not responsible for investigating financial crimes.

On Friday, the committee held discussions with Home Secretary Ek Narayan Aryal, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Basanta Bahadur Kunwar, Chief of the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) Shyam Lal Gyawali, and Chief of the Crime Investigation Office Tek Bahadur Tamang, among others.
