PM urges DoTM officials to address driving license issues

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ engaged in discussions today with officials from the Department of Transport Management (DoTM) to address concerns regarding the current status of driving licenses and potential solutions to the issues surrounding them.

During the meeting held at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers at Singha Durbar, the Prime Minister and DoTM officials deliberated on various aspects, including the prevailing issues within the driving license system, public grievances, and the Department’s role in resolving these matters.

Expressing his awareness of public dissatisfaction and anger regarding driving license-related matters, Prime Minister Dahal directed the Department to promptly tackle these concerns.

He emphasized the urgent need to rectify any discrepancies, stating, “Serious questions have been raised in the public sphere about the driver’s license. It shows serious criticism, dissatisfaction, and anger of the people.”

In addition to addressing immediate issues, the PM instructed the DoTM to streamline the digital license system.

He urged a thorough examination to determine whether the problems stemmed from policy, structural, or operational shortcomings and emphasized the need for decisive action in response.

Furthermore, Prime Minister Dahal instructed the DoTM to propose concrete policies and measures to address the sector’s challenges, given the upcoming policy, program, and budgetary considerations.

The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary Dr. Baikuntha Aryal, DoTM Director General Uddhav Rijal, and other officials.
