KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ emphasized the government’s commitment to human rights-friendly governance at a human rights award distribution ceremony held at Singha Durbar.
During the ceremony, Prime Minister Dahal highlighted the government’s priority in establishing a human rights-friendly system built on good governance, transparency, accountability, and the rule of law.
He reiterated the government’s commitment to respecting, protecting, and fulfilling human rights, emphasizing that many human rights are enshrined as fundamental rights in the constitution.
PM Dahal pointed out the establishment and functioning of various constitutional commissions, including the National Human Rights Commission and the National Women’s Commission, for effective monitoring and supervision to ensure the protection of human rights.
He underlined that the constitution guarantees a remedy for human rights violations through an independent and competent judiciary.
Calling for coordination with non-governmental organizations and civil society, Prime Minister Dahal stressed the need to ensure respect, protection, and fulfillment of human rights.
He announced the government’s decision to establish a human rights award fund to recognize the contributions of individuals and organizations working in the human rights field.
PM Dahal also highlighted Nepal’s active participation in the international forum on human rights, expressing solidarity and commitment to global efforts for the respect, protection, and fulfillment of human rights.
He urged effective implementation of the national action plan on human rights through coordination among all three levels of government, organizations, and civil society leaders engaged in human rights issues.
