President Paudel appoints Pandey as new Secretary-General of Federal Parliament Secretariat

President Ramchandra Paudel has appointed Padam Prasad Pandey as the new Secretary-General of the Federal Parliament Secretariat on Tuesday. In an official notice released on Tuesday, the Office of the President announced Pandey’s appointment to the role of Secretary-General, the leading administrative position in the parliament. He has been appointed to the post as per Article 106 (1) of the Constitution.

Maoist Chair Dahal directs lawmakers to play proactive role in enacting legislation

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda,’ also the Chairman of the Maoist Center, issued a directive urging lawmakers from his party to actively participate in parliamentary proceedings. The instruction was given during a meeting of the Maoist Centre Parliamentary Party held at the party office in Singha Durbar today. Chairman Dahal emphasized the need for lawmakers to refine their roles, recognizing the upcoming presentation of crucial bills in the current parliamentary session.

Maoist Center asserts claim for National Assembly chairmanship

The CPN-Maoist Center, currently in power, has firmly asserted its right to the position of National Assembly (NA) Chairman. During today’s parliamentary party meeting held at Singha Durbar, Prime Minister and party chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ conveyed that, being the largest party in the Upper House, the Maoist Center would claim the role of NA Chairman. Quoting Prime Minister Dahal, Maoist Center Secretary Devendra Poudel stated, “As the largest party in the National Assembly, we have the rightful claim to the chairmanship.”

Cooperative Fraud: Red notice issued against Bharat Maharjan

The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) has recently issued a red notice against Bharat Maharjan in connection with an embezzlement case involving the Sumeru Savings and Credit Cooperative (SSCC) located in Pulchowk, Lalitpur. The red notice was issued just four days ago by the CIB following complaints from the Department of Cooperative and the SSCC Board of Directors. Bharat Maharjan is facing allegations of embezzling funds belonging to depositors in the cooperative. The CIB investigation uncovered that Maharjan had embezzled an amount exceeding Rs 10 billion from approximately 35,000 depositors in Sumeru Cooperative.

NC postpones ‘Congress in the Community’ campaign

The ruling Nepali Congress (NC) has decided to put a halt to the remaining programs of the ‘Congress in the Community’ campaign. Issuing a statement on Tuesday, NC Central Office Chief Secretary Krishna Prasad Poudel announced the suspension of the campaign in the wake of the untimely demise of central member, former Minister of General Administration, and member of the Constitutional Assembly, Keshav Kumar Budhathoki. The former minister passed away on February 5 while undergoing treatment at Birat Medical College in Biratnagar.

Govt failed to deliver anticipated results: Gagan Thapa

Expressing disappointment, Nepali Congress (NC) General Minister Gagan Thapa stated that the coalition government has failed to deliver the anticipated results since its formation. Speaking at a program in Rupandehi on Tuesday, Thapa emphasized that the government’s achievements did not match the initial enthusiasm, leading to widespread dissatisfaction among the public. He noted dissatisfaction even in areas where the coalition won elections, revealing extreme discontent during the dialogue tour.

NEPSE witnesses single digit increase on Tuesday

The share market witnessed a surge of 9.44 points, leading the Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) to stabilize at 2085 points after this gain on Tuesday, the third trading day of the week. Alongside the increase in points, there is also an improvement in the trading volume. The business volume on this day reached Rs 2.59 billion, slightly higher than the Rs 2.43 billion recorded on the previous day. Among the 181 companies, 57 saw an increase in their value, while 9 remained stable.

Eleven rhinos found dead in CNP this fiscal year

Eleven rhinos have been found dead in Chitwan National Park (CNP) and surrounding areas in the current fiscal year. Of these, two were killed by poachers while nine died due to natural causes, said Ganesh Prasad Tiwari, the CNP Information Officer. According to him, the natural causes of the rhino deaths include getting stuck in bog, ill health, fighting with each other, attacks by tiger and old age.

Nepal’s foreign reserve reach record levels, indicating economic stability

The fiscal year 2080-81 mid-year review highlights significant strides in Nepal’s external economic sector. As per the latest economic and financial report unveiled by the Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) on Tuesday, foreign currency reserves are anticipated to sustain for a year, covering the value of goods and services imports, by the end of Paush. The total foreign exchange reserves, which amounted to Rs 1.539 trillion until the conclusion of Ashad, have witnessed an impressive 18% growth over six months, reaching Rs 1.816 trillion by the close of Poush.

JC recommends appointment and transfer of 12 District and High Court judges

The Judicial Council (JC), in its meeting chaired by Chief Justice Bishwombhar Prasad Shrestha, has made recommendations, calling for the appointment and transfer of a total of 12 judges from both the High Court and District Courts. For the High Court, the JC has proposed the transfer of three judges. Rameshwar Regmi from High Court Surkhet has been recommended for a transfer to Patan High Court, while Kazi Bahadur Rai from High Court Surkhet is slated for relocation to Ilam Bench of High Court Biratnagar. Additionally, Bishnu Prasad Aryal from High Court Tulsipur Butwal bench has been suggested to work in High Court Tulsipur. Furthermore, six District Court judges are on the list for transfers.
