NCC and Export Council collaborate for export facilitation

KATHMANDU: Nepal Chamber of Commerce (NCC) and Export Council of Nepal have mutually agreed to cooperate for the facilitation of export simplification.

In a welcoming ceremony held at the Jamal-based Chamber building, newly elected officials and executive committees of the Council discussed collaboration on policy improvements and possibilities in various subjects for export facilitation.

NCC expressed its commitment to work together with the Council, from policy formulation to simplification for export.

During the occasion, NCC President Rajendra Malla emphasized the identification and enhancement of exportable goods, highlighting the need for improvements to reap expected benefits.

“The country has the potential for exports exceeding Rs 100 billion. However, despite this potential, actual exports are not reaching Rs 25 billion,” he said.

President Malla also mentioned the challenges in policy implementation for export promotion and emphasized the need for an efficient and effective quarantine lab to facilitate productive operations.

He further acknowledged the benefit of centralizing products such as agricultural, handicrafts, medicinal herbs, tea, and coffee for streamlined export.

Speaking about the current financial year, President Malla revealed that the trade deficit has surged beyond Rs 597 billion in the first five months.

He stressed the need for collaborative efforts to overcome challenges and boost the economy.

Newly elected Chairman of the Export Council, Naresh Lal Shrestha, expressed concerns about the complexities in the export process, stating that entrepreneurs face unnecessary difficulties without simplification.
