Sudurpaschim Royals secure second consecutive win

KATHMANDU: Sudurpaschim Royals defeated Kathmandu Gurkhas by a massive 73-run margin in Thursday’s second match of the Nepal Premier League (NPL) cricket tournament. This marks Sudurpaschim’s second consecutive win in the league.

Batting first, Sudurpaschim set a target of 168 runs for the loss of six wickets.

In response, Kathmandu’s innings collapsed, managing only 94 runs in 15.5 overs.

Kathmandu’s highest scorer, Gerhard Erasmus, added 37 runs off 33 balls, hitting five fours and one six.

Sumit Maharjan contributed 14 runs, while Bhim Sharki and Erasmus each added 10 runs. However, the rest of Kathmandu’s batters failed to reach double digits.

Naren Saud was the star of the match for Sudurpaschim, delivering an exceptional performance with the ball.

He claimed five wickets for just 19 runs, dismantling Kathmandu’s batting lineup.

Saud dismissed key players, including Gerhard Erasmus, Stephen Eskinazi, Rashid Khan, Karan KC, and Shahab Alam, leaving Kathmandu reeling.

Sudurpaschim’s bowling attack was further bolstered by Abinash Bohora, who took two wickets, while Brandon McMullen and Saif Zaib grabbed one wicket each.

Kathmandu’s openers, Mykel Leask and Shankar Rana, were dismissed cheaply, further weakening their chase.
