KATHMANDU: The Maoist Center has concluded that the party’s decision to contest the upcoming elections independently, without forming an alliance, has received widespread approval from the public.
The conclusion came after an office-bearers’ meeting held at Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda’s residence in Khumaltar, where the results of the recent by-elections were reviewed.
The meeting concluded that the Maoists had garnered positive public support across the country.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Maoist leader Agni Sapkota stated that while the party lost in Kirtipur, party workers were treating it as a moral victory.
He emphasized that the by-elections had provided valuable insights and laid a strong foundation for future successes.
Sapkota also pointed out that the party had secured second place in the by-elections, marking the first time since 2064 BS that the Maoists had entered elections united.
He noted that the leadership would now focus on preparing for the upcoming municipal convention and organizing alert meetings.
Regarding future plans, Sapkota confirmed that the Maoist party was already beginning its preparations for the 2084 BS general elections.
“All our efforts are now directed towards winning the 2084 elections,” he said.
“We will continue the good governance campaign initiated by the government under Chairman Prachanda and bring it directly to the people. While there was some initial uncertainty, it now feels as though our thoughts and the people’s sentiments are aligned.”
Sapkota also outlined the party’s key agenda for the 2084 BS elections, which includes advocating for a directly elected President, fully proportional representation in the elections, and constitutional amendments to ensure that Members of Parliament (MPs) do not automatically become ministers.
