KATHMANDU: Police have detained cooperatives fraud victims protesting against Rabi Lamichhane, the chair of the Rastriya Swatantra Party and Member of Parliament for Chitwan Constituency No. 2.

The incident occurred on Saturday during an event in Chitwan, where victims of the Sahara Cooperative fraud demonstrated by marching with banners and slogans. As they approached the venue, police dispersed them at the Lions Chowk in Narayangadh.

Despite the disruptions, the cooperative victims managed to reach the event site, but were subsequently detained by police outside the venue. The protesters claimed they were subjected to stone-throwing while attempting to carry out a peaceful demonstration and submit a memorandum.

Shalikram Duwadi, coordinator of the Sahara Cooperative Victims Struggle Committee, stated that when they sought to inform Lamichhane about their issues, they faced interference instead. He mentioned that while discussing the 6.5 crore raised for the Gorkha Media from Sahara Cooperative and the matter of his shareholding, they were suddenly attacked with stones and bottles from within the venue.
