KATHMANDU: Sobita Gautam, a Member of Parliament from the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), has alleged that she was verbally abused when she visited Kageshwari Manahara Municipality-6 in Kathmandu on Sunday evening.
Gautam, who was there to assess the damage caused by recent floods and landslides, claimed she was mistreated during her visit.
According to her statement in today’s meeting of the House of Representatives, local residents guided her to the site of the landslide.
However, a group of young people in the village surrounded her and began to abuse her.
Gautam described the incident, saying, “A group of 15 to 20 young people, some of whom were under the influence of marijuana and alcohol, gathered around me. They shouted in unison, “What are you doing, you are dirty?'”
She further explained that despite her attempts to request them to stop the abuse, her pleas went unheard.
“Even when I spoke softly, they continued to scream and abuse me. They seemed intent on harassing me, and I believe this mistreatment occurred under the influence of a young leader from a national policital party,” she added.
Gautam questioned whether the party would take responsibility for the actions of these individuals but did not specify which party the youths were affiliated with.
