Government unveils 16th five-year plan



KATHMANDU: The government unveiled the full text of the 16th Five-Year Plan on Wednesday.

The National Planning Commission presented the plan, which will come into effect from the upcoming month of Shrawan (a month in the Nepali calendar) and will remain in place for the next five years.

The plan includes 40 national goals aimed at achieving prosperity.

These goals are divided into three categories: 10 for good governance, 10 for social justice, and 20 for economic prosperity.

By the end of the plan’s final year, the government aims to achieve an economic growth rate of 7.1 percent.

The targets include increasing the GDP from USD 1,496 to USD 2,381 and raising the per capita income (PCI) from USD 1,410 to USD 2,413.

The average economic growth during the five-year period is predicted to be 6.6 percent.
