NC General Secretary Thapa demands basis for six percent economic growth target

KATHMANDU: General Secretary of the main opposition Nepali Congress (NC) and Member of the House of Representatives, Gagan Thapa, has demanded the basis for the government’s six percent economic growth target in the budget.

Speaking during the discussion on the budget for the fiscal year 2024/25 in the House of Representatives on Wednesday, Thapa questioned Finance Minister Barshaman Pun on what basis the claim of a six percent economic growth rate was made.

Thapa remarked that given the significant turmoil in parliament, the responsibility of handling the budget might fall on his own shoulders in six to eight months.

“I am confused about how to speak on this budget. There is so much that is missing and inadequate. But considering the current turmoil in parliament, I might have to take responsibility for this budget in six to eight months,” Thapa said.
