Mayor Shah confirms free parking at Dharahara will persist despite Ministry’s directive

KATHMANDU: In response to the Ministry of Urban Development’s letter urging the cessation of the free parking service at Dharahara due to ongoing construction, Mayor Balen Shah of Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has taken to Facebook to affirm that the complimentary parking facility will continue to operate.

Expressing his dissatisfaction with the Ministry’s directive, Mayor Shah criticized the order to halt the service during the construction process, which has extended for two years and nine months.

He emphasized his commitment to maintaining the free parking service at Dharahara, despite the ongoing construction challenges.

The Ministry had cited the incomplete construction process as the reason behind discontinuing the parking facility. In response, Mayor Shah labeled the prolonged construction as “shameful” and reiterated his determination to keep the parking service accessible to the public.

Following the decision of the metropolis to ban on-road parking in New Road area, the free parking services have been introduced at Dharahara and Kathmandu Tower.

Residents and visitors can rest assured that free parking at Dharahara will persist, as affirmed by Mayor Balen Shah’s recent statement on social media.
