KATHMANDU: Minister for Water Supply Pradip Yadav has emphasized the importance of developing climate-resilient infrastructure to address the challenges posed by climate change and mitigate its impacts.

Speaking at a workshop titled “How to Make Infrastructure in the Hindu Kush Himalayas Climate Resilient,” organized by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) today, Yadav highlighted the urgent need to promote the development of infrastructure capable of withstanding climate-related challenges.

He praised the ADB’s study on climate change-induced issues in the Hindu Kush regions and acknowledged the organization’s ongoing support to the Ministry.

Yadav referenced the devastating floods caused by the Melamchi River in Sindhupalchowk in 2022, underscoring the necessity of implementing new development projects designed to manage climate risks effectively.

He called for comprehensive multi-risk assessments, early warning systems, sound financial management, and enhanced regional cooperation to achieve climate-resilient infrastructure.

Describing the ADB as a valued development partner for Nepal, Yadav expressed confidence that this collaboration would continue to strengthen in the future.

The workshop was attended by Bhutanese representative Govind Sharma, various ministry heads, development partners of Nepal, experts, and other stakeholders.

The event is anticipated to significantly contribute to the development of climate-resilient infrastructure and risk reduction efforts.
