Nepal and India ink four agreements during Joint Commission meeting

The seventh Joint Commission (JC) meeting of Foreign Ministers from Nepal and India concluded in Kathmandu with the signing of four agreements on Thursday. Co-chaired by Foreign Minister NP Saud and Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, the discussions encompassed economic relations, connectivity, trade and transport, energy and water resources, education, culture, and political matters. Various thematic areas were explored to strengthen the bilateral ties between the two nations.

Nepal and India ink pact for 10,000 megawatts electricity exchange

Marking a significant milestone in bilateral cooperation, Nepal and India have formalized an agreement for the trade of 10,000 megawatts of electricity. The accord was inked during a ceremony held at the Ministry of Energy, Water Resource, and Irrigation. Energy Secretary Gopal Prasad Sigdel and his Indian counterpart Pankaj Agrawal were the signatories to this groundbreaking long-term agreement. This accord follows the commitment made by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who announced the intention to purchase 10,000 megawatts of electricity over the next decade during the visit of his Nepali counterpart, Pushpa Kamal Dahal.

India commits Rs 10 billion for Jajarkot earthquake reconstruction

Nepal and India have inked four agreements, covering crucial areas such as hydropower and satellite collaboration. The formal signing ceremony, presided over by Nepal’s Minister of Foreign Affairs NP Saud and India’s Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar, marks a strengthening of bilateral ties. The agreements, encompassing strategic sectors, were confirmed by Indian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Amrit Rai.

Nepal halts work permits seeking employment in Russia, Ukraine

The Government of Nepal has decided to halt the issuance of work permits to individuals seeking employment in war-torn Russia and Ukraine. This decision comes as a response to growing concerns over Nepali youths enlisting in the Russian army despite the ongoing conflict in the region.

Complaint filed against Minister Kiranti for allegedly harming religious sentiments

A complaint has been lodged against Sudan Kiranti, the Minister of Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation, at the District Police Circle in Teku. Dhruva Raj Luitel from Kathmandu registered the complaint, asserting that the Minister’s recent statements have caused harm to religious sentiments.

Indian Foreign Minister Jaishankar holds talks with PM Dahal

Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar met with Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal on Thursday at Singha Durbar during his official visit to Kathmandu. Foreign Minister Jaishankar, who arrived in the capital earlier in the day, held discussions with PM Dahal as part of his diplomatic mission. Prior to this, Minister Jaishankar had meetings with President Ram Chandra Poudel and his Nepali counterpart NP Saud.

CAN unveils annual game schedule

The Cricket Association Nepal (CAN) has revealed its annual game schedule, encompassing both international and national fixtures. In a press conference held in Kathmandu, CAN shared details of the upcoming cricket events. The highlighted events on the annual game list include participation in the ICC World Cup League 2, T-20 series, and ODIs. Nepal is slated to engage in an ODI series against Canada from February 10 to 14.

PM Dahal approves resignation of chief political advisor Gajurel

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has officially approved the resignation of his chief political advisor, Haribol Gajurel, as confirmed by Govinda Acharya, the press advisor to PM Dahal. Gajurel had tendered his resignation from the position on December 6 of the previous year, and it is deemed effective from the same date, according to Acharya. Sources suggest that PM Dahal is currently considering an expansion of his secretariat.
