Ruling coalition holding meeting to discuss NA seat distribution

KATHMANDU: Leaders of the ruling coalition are holding a meeting today to discuss the allocation of seats in the National Assembly.

Rajendra Pandey, Vice Chairman of the Unified Socialist Party, stated that the meeting will take place at the Prime Minister’s official residence in Baluwatar at 9 am.

The focal point of the discussions revolves around the distribution of candidates for the upcoming National Assembly election scheduled for January 25, with 20 seats up for contention.

Despite sustained deliberations within the ruling coalition, consensus has proven elusive in determining how to distribute these seats effectively.

A notable aspect of the deliberations includes the allocation of the 9 vacant UML seats in the National Assembly.

The ongoing discussion addresses CPN-UML Chairman KP Oli’s request to Prime Minister Dahal for UML nominations.

This contentious issue is set to be a key agenda item in today’s meeting.

While the Nepali Congress and Maoist Center have expressed openness to including UML in the National Assembly, the Unified Socialist Party and Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) remain opposed.

The urgency has been heightened by the looming deadline for candidate nomination registration for the National Assembly elections.
