Nepal and China sign nine agreements and MoUs



KATHMANDU: Nepal and China have signed nine agreements and memorandums of understanding (MOUs), and letters exchanged during Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s official visit to China.

Following a meeting between Prime Minister Oli and his Chinese counterpart, Li Qiang, at the Great Hall of the People on Tuesday morning, officials from both countries signed and exchanged nine key documents in their presence.

After the bilateral talks and signing ceremony, Krishna Prasad Dhakal, Spokesperson and Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that a total of nine agreements and memorandums of understanding were signed, and several letters were exchanged.

According to Dhakal, the documents include an exchange of letters regarding the Tokha-Chhahare tunnel route; a memorandum of understanding on Nepal-China trade; a certificate of reconstruction for the nine-story Basantapur Durbar; a protocol for the export of thermally processed buffalo meat; a memorandum of understanding on development planning; amemorandum of understanding on economic and technical cooperation; and an exchange of letters on cash grants.

Likewise, a memorandum of understanding on voluntary Chinese language education was also signed on the occasion.

A memorandum of understanding on communication technology between Nepal Television and China Media Group has also been signed reaffirming their commitment to further cooperation.

During the bilateral talks, discussions also covered areas such as connectivity, infrastructure development, industrial growth, medical cooperation, agriculture, trade, tourism, investment, science and technology, sports, disaster management, people-to-people exchanges, and poverty alleviation.

Dhakal emphasized, “These bilateral talks will significantly contribute to elevating the relationship between Nepal and China to a higher level.”
