Ghatasthapana solemnized at Shital Niwas

KATHMANDU: President Ram Chandra Paudel has solemnized the Ghatasthapana rituals along with worship of Goddess Durgadevi in keeping with the Vedic tradition at the Rashtrapati Bhawan, Sheetal Niwas, the President House, on the occasion of Ghatasthapana of the Badadasain festival today.

There is the tradition of the Head of State, representing the whole nation, solemnizing the Ghatasthapana rituals with the worship of Durga, the goddess symbolizing power and might, as per the religious rites on the first day of the Durga Pakshya.

In keeping with this time-honoured tradition, President Paudel also observed the Ghatasthapana rituals and sowed the maize and barley seeds for their germination into Jamara.

The Durga Saptasati (a religious scripture honouring and eulogizing the nine forms of goddess Durga) is recited or read out along with paying homage to the goddess for nine days from today at the place where the Ghatasthapana or the germination of the Jamara has been solemnized.

On the tenth day which is called the Bijaya Dashami, the nine-day special worship is concluded and the holy water from the specially consecrated urn is sprinkled and people put on ‘tika’ and ‘jamara’ as the symbols of victory and prosperity bestowed by the goddess.
