KATHMANDU: Rastriya Prajatantra Party Nepal (RPP-Nepal) has criticized the formation of a new coalition for constitutional amendment as a futile pretext solely to validate the rise to power.

Following the Central Working Committee meeting, Kamal Thapa-led RPP Nepal released a statement asserting the necessity to explore federalism, secularism, and democratic alternatives to liberate the country from crisis.

“The argument made for forming a new coalition for a constitutional amendment is merely an excuse to affirm the rise to power,” the statement said, “If the goal is to liberate the country from crisis, courage is needed to explore federalism, secularism, and democratic alternatives.”

RPP Nepal referred to the lack of discussion and decision-making regarding constitutional amendment and review within their party bodies, emphasizing that superficial reforms alone cannot resolve the crisis the country faces.

In jest towards RPP, they sparked enthusiasm among those who desire the restoration of Hindu state and monarchy, and opposition to the state structure of provinces, indicating no necessity for such discussions.

“There is no need for additional measures to fortify and reinforce a failed and corrupt system through the purported constitutional amendment discussion,” the RPP Nepal’s statement said.

At present, instead of superficial constitutional amendments, exploring secularism, democracy, and federalism should be re-evaluated, and all Nepalis should unite to build a political system, including India, by organizing an all-party conference or gathering public opinion on the subject, as demanded by RPP Nepal.
