KATHMANDU: CPN-UML Chair and former Prime Minister KP Oli emphasized that major political parties must engage in dialogue and collective efforts when the nation faces difficulties.

In a recent interview with RSS, Oli stated, “We believe that democracy should be based on healthy competition. We drafted the Constitution together and should move forward together. By working hand-in-hand, we can provide the necessary solutions for the nation.”

When asked about the possibility of the Nepali Congress and UML leading the country together to address specific national problems, Oli recalled that the UML had proposed cooperation with the Congress during the Constitution’s promulgation. He clarified that the UML has always been open to dialogue when Congress has approached them.

“The UML does not shy away from dialogue and consensus on national issues; we take the lead in such efforts,” Oli remarked. “In the past, the UML has led and paved the way in a democratic manner, and we will continue to do so if necessary.”

Oli highlighted the UML’s constructive role in the aftermath of the 2015 earthquake, working with the CPN (Maoist Centre) on reconstruction and constitution-making, despite being in opposition at the time.

“We have a history of working for the country and the people. All parties should unite when necessary. The UML, Congress, and Maoist Centre have worked together for the nation in the past.”

Addressing the question of forming a coalition government with the Nepali Congress and Maoist Center to provide political stability, Oli said, “The UML is a party that respects the people’s aspirations and the nation’s needs. Collaboration among the agents of change is essential for the country’s political stability, and the UML is ready to lead this effort.”

Oli stressed that the Constitution is the means of achieving national happiness and prosperity.

Responding to a query, Oli explained that there is no excuse for not delivering results to the people while in government.

“Being in power means developing the country and providing for the people. Remaining in government is meaningless if we fail to address the people’s problems,” the former Prime Minister said.

Oli further explained that the UML’s proposal to the Nepali Congress to join hands is necessary to develop the system envisioned by the Constitution and to formulate relevant laws.

He urged the Congress to take this matter seriously.

“We should stand together on the basic principles of democracy. After a long struggle, we brought this system by our own choice, and it should be strengthened. The Constitution should be amended if issues arise during its implementation. We must hold dialogue and reach consensus for its successful implementation, keeping the people at the center,” he stressed.
