DoR blacktops street amid tussle with Kathmandu Metropolitan City

KATHMANDU: Amid the ongoing tussle between the Kathmandu Metropolitan City and the Department of Road, the latter blacktopped the street cut to expand the footpath on Monday.

Under the guidance of Kathmandu Metropolitan City Mayor Balendra Sah (Balen), the metropolis had planned to expand the existing footpath from Juddha Statue New Road to Indrachowk.

The Department of Road had objected to the Mayor’s plan and asked the metropolitan city not to execute the said expansion of the sidewalks.

A team deployed from DoR completed the blacktopping on Monday.

Following the road cut, a dispute arose between Kathmandu Metropolitan City and the Department of Roads.

Discussions took place between Mayor Sah and the ward chairman regarding the cutting of the road.

DoR informed Kathmandu Metropolitan City that the road cut, contrary to the standards, would be repaired within three days.

However, as Mayor Sah did not back down from his stance, DoR blacktopped the road on Monday.
