International Buddhist Seminar in Lumbini commences tomorrow

LUMBINI: Lumbini Buddhist University is set to host a two-day international seminar beginning tomorrow, with the theme ‘Exploring the Relevance of Buddhist Education in Addressing Global Challenges: Perspective from Lumbini, the Birthplace of Buddha.’

The seminar aims to delve into the crucial role of Buddhist education in tackling contemporary global challenges.

Scholars, educators, researchers, and practitioners of Buddhist faith from various countries worldwide will convene to offer insights, share experiences, and deliberate on the theme, as stated by Dr. Manik Ratna Shakya, Dean of the Faculty of Buddhist Studies at the University.

Participants from countries such as Sri Lanka, Thailand, Myanmar, Japan, Bangladesh, India, Taiwan, Portugal, and France, among others, are expected to present working papers at the event.

Dr. Shakya emphasized the relevance of exploring the teachings of Buddha, particularly in light of pressing global issues such as environmental crisis, global warming, and psychological challenges.

The seminar will also focus on the importance of Buddhist education, the conservation of Lumbini and other Buddhist shrines, and academic programs offered by Lumbini Buddhist University.

Discussions at the seminar will encompass Buddhist philosophy and yoga, aiming to explore the forms of Buddhist education necessary to address contemporary global challenges.

Additionally, participants will seek to understand people’s expectations regarding courses offered by the University.

This seminar serves as a platform for meaningful dialogue and collaboration among international experts in Buddhism, fostering a deeper understanding of Buddhist principles and their applicability in today’s world.
