KATHMANUD: Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) leader Gita Basnet has remained out of contact after police issued an arrest warrant against her regarding allegations of misappropriating cooperative funds.

The search for Basnet intensified after a district court issued an arrest warrant, accusing her of embezzling funds from the Chhipchhipe Cooperative Society in East Nawalparasi (Nawalpur).

Narahari Regmi, Chief of the Nawalpur District Police Office, confirmed the ongoing efforts to contact RPP leader Basnet.

“We are looking for her, utilizing various means to establish contact,” SP Regmi stated.

“We anticipate that a responsible figure of the state will step forward to address these allegations.”

Following complaints from savers of the Cooperative, alleging mismanagement of their savings, the police have apprehended seven individuals, including Basnet’s son-in-law Nagendra Bahadur Rimal.

Others in custody include the cooperative’s secretary Yogendra Pandey, along with Bikas Sapkota, Krishna Gyawali, and Sanjeev Kumar Mahato.

All detainees are presently held by the Nawalpur police, as a complaint of embezzlement totaling Rs 160 million 69 lakhs has been filed at the Nawalpur District Police Office.

Meanwhile, the RPP has directed Basnet to cooperate with the ongoing investigation.
