Press freedom stands as bedrock of democracy: President



KATHMANDU: President Ram Chandra Paudel has said that freedom of the press and expression stands as the bedrock of democracy, attributing significant achievements in Nepal’s democratic movements to the tireless efforts of the press.

In his message on the occasion of Press Freedom Day, he conveyed his warmest regards to journalists both domestically and internationally.

In his message issued today, the President underscored the indispensable role of democracy in fostering a climate conducive to free and impartial journalism.

He highlighted the pivotal contribution of the Nepali press in the demise of autocratic regimes and the establishment of a federal democratic republic.

He stressed that a neutral, independent, and robust press strengthens the democratic fabric, urging collective efforts to cultivate an enabling environment.

Highlighting the constitutional provision guaranteeing complete press freedom, the President reiterated the nation’s commitment to upholding journalistic integrity and autonomy.
