Gurkha soldiers’ case should be taken to int’l court if unheeded by British govt: Dr. Narayan Khadka

KATHMANDU: Former Foreign Minister and Nepali Congress lawmaker Dr. Narayan Khadka has indicated that international law might be invoked in relation to the pension issues of former Gurkha soldiers.

Speaking at the meeting of the International Relations and Tourism Committee in the parliament on Sunday, he expressed concern that if the UK government does not take the initiative to provide equal service benefits to British Gurkha soldiers as well, it may escalate to an international legal matter.

Dr. Khadka highlighted the seriousness of the situation, pointing out the grave nature of the work done by former Gurkha soldiers and the injustices and discrimination they have faced.

He also mentioned the importance of seeking support from countries like India and the United States in addressing this issue.

“This is a serious issue, involving injustice and discrimination. International law is applicable to this matter. It is the last resort. We should not wait any longer to pursue this,” Khadka suggested.

He remarked that the Prime Minister and the legislative committee should proactively discuss the agenda of Gurkha.
