Parliamentary committee, Teachers’ Federation discuss School Education Bill

KATHMANDU: The Education, Health and Information Technology Committee, House of Representatives and the Nepal Teachers’ Federation today discussed about the School Education Bill, 2080 BS.

The parliamentary committee today sat with the Federation to take its submissions regarding the Bill.

Federation president Kamala Tuladhar and general secretary Laxmi Kishor Subedi urged the Committee to specially consider about incorporating those issues highlighted in the agreements reached between the government and Federation on September 22 and between the government and Relief Teachers’ Central Committee on September 29.

They demanded the withdrawal of the provision about teacher’s appointment by the local level. The Federation presented a charter of 61-point demand before the Committee, underlining the need of promoting trade union rights of teachers and ending all sorts of discriminations against them on the basis political ground.

Committee President Bhanubhakta Joshi the process to collect feedbacks from teachers, school employees and other relevant organizations will continue in next meetings as well.

The HoR already held the theoretical deliberations on the Bill and it was sent to the Legislative Committee for clause-wise amendments.

Following the resignation of the Bill in the lower house on September 13 by the government, teachers from across the country staged the Kathmandu-based mass protest and it ended with the signing of the agreement with the government.
