KATHMANDU: Shantalal Pradhan, a 47-year-old Nepali man residing in the United States since 2015, was found deceased in his Upper Marlboro, Maryland, residence last week.

The cause of death has not yet been revealed, and there are no signs of foul play, according to nepyork.com.

Originally from Bharatpur, Nepal, Pradhan was a well-regarded mathematics teacher who encountered significant hardships while in the U.S.

He was the victim of a robbery at gunpoint in Texas a few years ago, an experience that left a lasting impact on him.

Additionally, in 2019, he was struck by a neurological illness that confined him to bed for over six months.

Despite these challenges, Pradhan remained devoted to supporting his family, covering their living expenses, loans, and his children’s tuition fees.

He had been eagerly anticipating the opportunity to return to Nepal and reunite with family and friends after nine years, but he was unable to make the trip.

A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to facilitate the return of Pradhan’s body to Nepal for traditional funeral rites.

Pradhan is survived by his wife, who has been waiting for his return, a daughter currently in school, and a son just starting his career.

The funds raised will cover the costs of repatriation, including embalming, processing fees, and airfare, with any remaining money going directly to his family in Nepal to support funeral expenses and other needs.
