Four new ministers from UML join Gandaki Province govt

CPN-UML has expanded its role in the Gandaki government by securing four ministries.

Under the leadership of Nepali Congress’s Surendraraj Pandey, UML now holds the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure Development and Transport; the Ministry of Agriculture, Land Management and Cooperatives; the Ministry of Health; and the Ministry of Industry and Tourism.

The ministers appointed are Prakash Bahadur KC for the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure Development and Transport; Padma GC for the Ministry of Agriculture, Land Management and Cooperatives; Krishna Pathak for the Ministry of Health; and Mitralal Basyal for the Ministry of Industry and Tourism.

Deepak Manange resigns after ministry transfer

Rajeev Gurung, widely known as Deepak Manange, resigned from his position following a recent shake-up in the Gandaki Province government.

On Monday, Manange, who was previously the Minister of Physical Infrastructure, was transferred to the Forest Ministry.

This move was intended to persuade the CPN-UML to join the government, as Chief Minister Surendraraj Pandey hoped to bring them on board by offering this position.

Ncell renews license with first installment of Rs five billion

Ncell, a prominent private sector telecommunications provider in Nepal, has renewed its service operation license for the next five years.

The renewal was confirmed following a decision by the Council of Ministers on August 29.

Ncell has paid the first installment of NPR 5 billion as part of the license renewal fee.

“Ncell has renewed its service operation license by paying the required amount for the first installment as per the Council of Ministers’ decision,” said Santosh Paudel, spokesperson for the Nepal Telecommunication Authority.

“The remaining three installments will be settled with 10 percent interest,” he told Khabarhub.

Finance Ministry approves Rs 600 million to DDC

The Ministry of Finance has granted approval for the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development to submit a proposal to the Council of Ministers for a loan investment of Rs 600 million in the Dairy Development Corporation (DDC), subject to certain conditions.

This substantial amount will be utilized by the DDC to promptly settle outstanding payments to farmers for their milk.

For the current fiscal year, there is a budget allocation of Rs 10 million under the loan investment for the DDC.

Tourist arrival in August soars by 8.3 percent

Tourist arrivals in August this year soared by 8.3 percent compared to the same month last year.

According to data from the Nepal Tourism Board, the country saw an increase of 5,566 tourists in August 2024, bringing the total to 72,719 visitors.

This marks a significant rise from the 67,153 tourists who visited Nepal in August 2023.

The increase in arrivals was largely driven by a surge in visitors from India, who numbered 25,832.

Kushe Aunshi, Father’s Day observed today

Hindus in the country collected Kush, a holy grass used while performing various holy rituals such as Shraddha (holy rituals remembering the departed ancestors) and religious rituals, across the country today.

There is a religious belief that keeping Kush collected by priests and anointed with sacred verses or mantras in the house brings well-being to the household.

The Hindu community regards Kush, Tulashi (basil plant), Peepal and Shaligram (ammonite stone) as the symbols of Lord Bishnu.

Also known as the day of Gokarne Aunshi, children on the occasion, fed their fathers with delicious food items including sweets, and show reverence. It is also called Father’s Day.

Four people die of diarrhea in Narainapur; seven taken ill

Four people lost their lives to diarrhea in Narainapur in Banke district.

Likewise, other seven have fallen ill due to diarrhea that was broken out in Narainapur rural municipality-3, Gegli village of Banke district.

The deceased have been identified as 25-year-old Rusa Pasi, his one-and-a-half-year-old daughter Nandini Pasi, 60-year-old Shanti Pasi and 10-year-old Yusuf Ali of Gegal, said Narainapur-3 ward chair Ajay Mishra.

Tribhuvan University seeks applications for 11 Campus Chiefs

Tribhuvan University (TU) announced the recruitment of Campus Chiefs for 11 campuses across the country.

Today (Monday), the Campus Chief Selection Committee of Tribhuvan University issued a notification inviting applications for these roles. Eligible candidates have seven days from today to apply for the positions.

Gold and silver prices fall in Nepalese market

The price of gold and silver decreased in the Nepali market on Monday.

The price of gold has dropped by 300 rupees per tola, now standing at 152,000 rupees per tola, according to the Nepal Gold and Silver Traders Federation.

On Sunday, gold was trading at 152,300 rupees per tola.

Similarly, the price of silver has decreased by 20 rupees per tola and is currently trading at 1,775 rupees per tola, according to the Federation.
