Sudurpaschim Province Chief calls for stake in new government formation

Following the resignation of Chief Minister Dirgha Sodari on Friday, Province Chief Najir Miya has summoned political parties to stake their claim to form a new government. Parties interested in staking their claim must do so by 5 PM on Sunday, according to a press statement issued by the Office of the Province Chief. CM Sodari announced his resignation in an address to the provincial assembly, ahead of a scheduled vote of confidence that he was unlikely to win.

CPN (Unified Socialist) expands central committee to 344 members

The CPN (Unified Socialist) has finalized its central committee members, expanding the committee to include all aspirants. According to the party statute, the central committee is supposed to have 21 office bearers and 299 members. However, to accommodate the demands of all aspirants, the party has increased the number of central committee members to 344, as announced after a meeting held on Friday, according to party spokesperson Jagannath Khatiwada. The party, which concluded its general convention a month ago, initially selected only 93 central committee members.

Job Opportunities in Japan: Skill and language tests in November

Skill and language tests for Nepali nationals interested in building sanitation and management jobs in Japan are scheduled from November 27 to December 8. A team of Japanese officials informed Dhandu Raj Ghimire, the Director General of the Department of Foreign Employment, about the exams for those seeking employment in Japan under the SSW (Specified Skilled Worker) process. According to Director General Ghimire, the Japanese team has expressed interest in welcoming 30,000 laborers.

NC recommends four ministers for Karnali province government

The Nepali Congress (NC) in Karnali has recommended four individuals to be inducted into the government led by Chief Minister Yamlal Kandel. At a meeting held today, the party selected Rajib Bikram Shah as Minister for Economic Affairs and Planning, Ghanashyam Bhandari as Minister for Social Development, Bijaya Budha as Minister for Energy and Water Resources, and Suresh Adhikari as Minister for Industry, Tourism, Forest, and Environment, according to NC Chief Whip for the province, Hikmat Bahadur Bist.

Man and woman found dead at guest house near TIA

A man and woman were found dead at a guest house in Sinamangal, Kathmandu Metropolitan City-9. The deceased have been identified as Bharat Bahadur Sarki, 23, and Karishma Sarki, in her early twenties, both from Triveni Municipality-4, Bajura, according to the District Police Range Kathmandu. The couple had been staying at Jharna Guest House since July 30. When they did not respond to calls for lunch this afternoon, the guest house owner informed the police. Upon opening the door, the police found them dead.

Sudurpaschim CM Dirgha Bahadur Sodari resigns

Dirgha Bahadur Sodari, Chief Minister of Sudurpaschim Province, resigned from his position on Friday. Sodari’s resignation came ahead of a scheduled vote of confidence, which he was unlikely to win. His government lost its majority after the UML withdrew its support. In his address to the provincial assembly, CM Sodari announced his resignation.

Public holiday in Kathmandu Valley on Sunday

The government has declared a public holiday on Sunday, August 4, to mark the Bhoto Jatra festival. In a press statement issued on Friday, the Ministry of Home Affairs announced that the public holiday will apply to all three districts of the Kathmandu Valley: Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, and Lalitpur. The Bhoto Jatra celebration will include the Bhoto exhibition of Rato Machindranath, scheduled to take place on Sunday.

Monsoon-induced death toll rises to 148

The death toll from floods and landslides triggered by monsoon rains has reached 148 people across various parts of the country, according to Nepal Police Spokesperson and Deputy Inspector General of Police Dan Bahadur Karki. Since the monsoon began on June 10, the casualties have been reported as follows: Kathmandu Valley: 3 deaths Koshi Province: 25 deaths Madhes Province: 6 deaths Bagmati Province: 29 deaths Gandaki Province: 42 deaths Lumbini Province: 25 deaths Karnali Province: 8 deaths Sudurpaschim Province: 10 deaths.

Majority of grade 12 students fail English exam

A significant number of Grade 12 students have failed the Compulsory English exam this year, as reported by the National Examination Board (NEB) on Friday. The exam results revealed that 102,206 students failed in English, marking a concerning trend in the subject. The overall pass rate for regular students stands at 52.91%, with 47.09% of students being non-graded, indicating they did not pass.

President Paudel appoints three new State Ministers

President Ram Chandra Paudel appointed three new State Ministers on Friday, following recommendations from the government. The new ministers include lawmakers from the Nepali Congress and the Nagarik Unmukti Party. According to the Office of the President, Purna Bahadur Tamang and Rupa BK of Nepali Congress, and Arun Kumar Chaudhary from Nagarik Unmukti Party have been appointed. Gold price up by Rs 500 per tola today

The price of gold increased by Rs 500 per tola in the domestic market today. According to the Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers’ Association, fine gold is now priced at Rs 149,900 per tola, while standard gold is trading at Rs 148,200 per tola. On Tuesday, the price of fine gold was Rs 149,400 per tola while standard gold was traded at Rs 148,700 per tola. In addition, the price of silver today is Rs 1,875 per tola.

Two youths killed in Jhapa road mishap

Two persons were killed in a road accident that happened last evening along the Postal Highway at Haldibari Rural Municipality-5 in Jhapa district. Sub-Inspector of Nepal Police Purna Prasad Gautam said that a pick-up van hit a motorcycle, killing both the motorcyclist and pillion rider. Sub-Inspector Gautam shared that 31-year-old Prem Prasain of Haldibari Rural Municipality-5 and pillion rider Dikes Karki of Barahakshetra Municipality-10, who were critically injured in the mishap, were pronounced dead immediately after they were taken to the B and C Hospital in Birtamod, Jhapa.

Two Indian nationals held with pistol

Two Indian nationals were held from Maheshbari of Sakhuwanankarkatti Rural Municipality-5 in Siraha district for possessing a pistol. Chief of the District Police Office, Siraha, Ramesh Pandit said that Indian nationals Niraj Kumar Paswan, 18, and Arun Shah, 37, of Maduwani district of Bihar State of India were arrested after a security check last evening. Pandit said the two were traveling in a public vehicle on its way to Lahan from Thadi in the district.
