KATHMANDU: Dirgha Bahadur Sodari, Chief Minister of Sudurpaschim Province, resigned from his position on Friday.

Sodari’s resignation came ahead of a scheduled vote of confidence, which he was unlikely to win.

His government lost its majority after the UML withdrew its support.

In his address to the provincial assembly, CM Sodari announced his resignation.

The assembly currently has 53 members, including 18 from the Nepali Congress, 11 from UML, 11 from the Maoist Center (including the Speaker), seven from the Nagarik Unmukti Party, four from CPN (US), one from RPP, and one independent lawmaker.

According to the agreement between the Nepali Congress and UML, the Nepali Congress will now lead the government in Sudurpaschim Province.
