Maoist Center preparing to dissolve Standing Committee

KATHMANDU: The Maoist Center, which exited power just a month ago, is preparing to dissolve various committees within the party structure.

Leaders have announced plans to disband the office bearers and the Standing Committee in order to convene a special convention.

Three years after the last convention and less than two years after electing the current office bearers, the Maoist Center has decided to disband these committees.

Currently, the Maoist Center has eight key structures: Office Bearers, Standing Committee, Central Committee, Advisers, among others.

The party’s structure includes 43 Standing Committee members and 407 central members, including a 22-member office bearers group.

The eighth convention held recently elected Pushpa Kamal Dahal “Prachanda” as Chairman of the party.

The Maoist Center announced their 22-member office bearers, which include one Chairman, four Vice-Chairmen, one General Secretary, six General Secretaries, nine Secretaries, and one Treasurer.

The Maoist Center now plans to retain the Central Committee while dissolving the other committees.

An official has indicated that this decision is expected to be confirmed at the Standing Committee meeting to be held soon.

Following this, the Central Committee will make the final decision, as all major decisions require Central Committee approval.

A source close to Chairman Prachanda confirmed that the Standing Committee agenda is nearly finalized.

“There is a possibility that further organizational changes may be necessary,” a source said.

Chairman Prachanda is currently working on a political report.

The party also aims to hold a special convention to address unity among different factions and new leaders joining the party.
