New ruling coalition: UML gets 9 ministries including PM, NC 10 ministries including Home Affairs
In a significant development, Nepal’s major political forces, the Nepali Congress and the CPN-UML, have inked a pact for a collaborative power-sharing arrangement late Monday night. The agreement, finalized between Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba and UML Chairman KP Oli, delineates the allocation of ministries, provincial leadership roles, and the rotation of government leadership. Under the terms, the government will initially be led by UML Chairman Oli for the first half of the year.
UML urges Prime Minister Dahal to vacate seat to form a new govt by Wednesday
The CPN-UML has urged Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda to facilitate the formation of a new government by Wednesday. According to UML General Secretary Pradeep Gyawali, the party Secretariat meeting, held in the central office Chyasal, Lalitpur on Tuesday, decided to ask the Prime Minister to vacate the seat and make room for the new government under UML leadership.
CIAA raids in Pokhara: Decision to grant tax exemption to Manipal College under scrutiny
The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) conducted a raid at the Pokhara Metropolitan City office on Tuesday afternoon. The CIAA team seized documents related to a municipal executive meeting decision that granted a completion certificate to Manipal Teaching Hospital’s building, which would result in a revenue loss of nearly Rs 200 million.
Case against Home Minister Lamichhane deferred again
The writ petition against Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane has been deferred once again. The Supreme Court hearing on Tuesday did not result in a final order. The case, filed by advocate Anupam Bhattarai, was scheduled for a decision after Tuesday’s hearing but has been postponed for another day. Previously, on June 21, the hearing on the writ petition before Justices Sapana Pradhan Malla and Sharanga Subedi was also deferred.

Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane stated that the power dynamics in the government shifted overnight as soon as major corruption files began to surface. Speaking briefly with journalists at Singha Durbar on Tuesday, Lamichhane mentioned that the government could not sustain itself even for one night once significant corruption files were opened. He emphasized that the public clearly understood the reasons behind the sudden changes in power alliances, suggesting it was an attempt to protect certain individuals.
SC issues interim order against canceling SEBON Chair appointment process
The Supreme Court has issued a short-term interim order preventing the government from cancelling the appointment process for the Chairman of the Securities Board of Nepal (SEBON). Justice Abdul Aziz Musalman’s bench issued the order on Tuesday during a hearing on a writ petition filed by one of the candidates, Santosh Narayan Shrestha, who opposed the government’s decision to cancel the selection process.
Uncertainty looms as PM Dahal refuses to step down
The alliance between Maoist Center, CPN-UML, and Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has collapsed, throwing Nepal into political disarray. Following an agreement between Nepali Congress and UML to form a government of national consensus, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ finds himself leading a minority government. Currently, Prime Minister Dahal commands the support of only 80 MPs, including 32 from the Maoist Centre, his own party, and others from various smaller parties, including the RSP.

NEPSE rises by 47 points despite two circuit breakers
The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) significantly surged on Tuesday, the third trading day of the week. The market hit a positive circuit breaker just one minute after opening, causing a 20-minute halt. Upon reopening, it hit a second circuit breaker. After these interruptions, the stock market settled at 47.04 points by the end of the day. The NEPSE index increased by 2.29 percent, reaching the 2100 mark.
