SC to pass verdict on Govinda Raj Joshi graft case on July 28

KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court is scheduled to pass its verdict on the corruption case against former Minister and Nepali Congress leader Govindaraj Joshi on July 28.

A joint bench of judges Binod Sharma and Bal Krishna Dhakal concluded the hearing on Sunday and announced that the final verdict would be delivered on July 28.

The Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) had filed a corruption case against Joshi and his family members at the Special Court on January 2, 2004.

Initially, the Special Court granted Joshi a clean chit, but this decision was later ordered to be reconsidered by the Supreme Court.

Upon reconsideration, the Special Court convicted Joshi in the corruption case and sentenced him to one and a half years in prison.

Following this, both the CIAA and Joshi filed appeals at the Supreme Court.

The CIAA is demanding a longer sentence for Joshi, while Joshi is seeking to be acquitted.
