UML voices dissatisfaction over budget: Vice Chairman Paudel criticizes lack of consultation

KATHMANDU: The primary ruling party, CPN-UML, has expressed dissatisfaction with the budget preparation process for the fiscal year 2081/82, asserting that the Finance Minister neglected to seek advice or suggestions from coalition partners.

During Sunday’s parliamentary session, former Finance Minister and UML Vice-Chair Bishnu Prasad Paudel voiced dissatisfaction with the deliberation on the presented Appropriation Bill.

He highlighted deficiencies and issues in the budget, expressing dismay that the Finance Minister disregarded all advice provided.

“While we acknowledge the Finance Minister’s busy schedule,” he said, “we haven’t witnessed any effort on his part to consult with the coalition parties. I understand his workload, but when crafting the budget alongside us, the coalition partners, seeking our advice would have been beneficial.”

UML Chairman KP Oli also expressed discontent with the budget on Saturday.

Oli remarked that the budget was presented without consultation with the ruling parties, addressing the UML’s parliamentary party meeting in the Lhotse Hall of the Parliament building.

He emphasized that the lack of discussion made it seem like the budget belonged solely to the Finance Minister’s party, rather than to the government as a whole.
