Leadership dispute delays Karnali Province Assembly meeting

KATHMANDU: Dispute between the leadership of the ruling parties, CPN-UML and CPN-Maoist Center, has affected the Karnali Province Assembly meeting.

Although the meeting was scheduled to start at three o’clock on Tuesday following the Chief Minister Rajkumar Sharma’s call for a vote of confidence, it has not commenced yet (3:50 pm).

Even if the UML leadership in Karnali agrees to hold the meeting, a problem has arisen as the Maoist Center faction, along with Chief Minister Sharma, has not shown a positive stance.

While Sharma has expressed his inability to garner confidence votes in the current situation, leaders of the UML are attempting to persuade him.

Amidst this dispute, Maoist Center leader  and former Chief Minister Mahendra Bahadur Shahi has also arrived in Karnali for internal discussions.

The ongoing internal discussions to reach an agreement have prevented the Provincial Assembly meeting from convening on time.

Speaker Nanda Gurung has stated that the meeting can convene by 5 p.m. as per the rules.

She will then decide on further actions after observing the situation.
