PARSA: Birgunj Metropolitan City has intensified its efforts to identify and remove illegally constructed structures encroaching upon public property along the roadside.

The metropolis initiated the campaign in response to hindrances faced during road expansion projects.

With a rising trend in encroachment upon public ponds and lands, the local government has been actively dismantling such unauthorized structures.

In the latest phase of the campaign, the metropolis demolished houses and huts in Ward No. 29 on Monday.

This action comes as part of the ongoing construction of a 7.5-kilometer blacktop road from Bagahi to Paras Chowk via Musaili Basaldilwa, Bakner, and Parsagadhi.

Despite repeated notices, the illegal structures remained, prompting the metropolis to take action.

Previously, the Birgunj Metropolitan City removed unlawfully erected physical structures at Pratima Chowk in Birgunj Metropolitan-15 along the Postal Highway.

An agreement has been reached to complete the construction of a 150-meter road section from Pratima Chowk towards Kalaiya by June 12, with an allocated budget of Rs 6.915 million.

Hari Pokharel, secretariat advisor to Mayor of Birgunj Metropolitan City, Rakeshman Singh, stated that the metropolis has successfully reclaimed 28 public ponds and more than 148 bighas of land during the campaign.
