Local by-elections: 45 percent voter turnout as of 1 pm

KATHMANDU: The Election Commission (EC) has reported a 45 percent voter turnout in the ongoing by-elections across 41 local levels in the country, including Kirtipur Municipality as of 1 pm on Sunday.

Chief Election Commissioner Dinesh Kumar Thapaliya has described voter participation as enthusiastic, with significant turnout recorded in several areas.

Fourty-five percent voter turnout has been recorded by 1 pm, according to the EC.

Voting began at 7 a.m. on Sunday, though in the remote Himalayan region of Humla, polling started around 9 a.m. due to cold weather conditions.

The Election Commission has said that voting will continue until 5 pm today.
