Local by-elections: 38 percent voter turnout as of 12 noon

KATHMANDU: The Election Commission (EC) has reported a 38 percent voter turnout in the ongoing by-elections across 41 local levels in the country, including Kirtipur Municipality as of 12 noon.

Chief Election Commissioner Dinesh Kumar Thapaliya described voter participation as enthusiastic, with significant turnout recorded in several areas.

As of now, details from 234 out of 286 polling stations have been submitted to the Election Commission.

Thirty-eight percent voter turnout has been recorded by 12 noon, according to the EC.

Voting began at 7 a.m. on Sunday, though in the remote Himalayan region of Humla, polling started around 9 a.m. due to cold weather conditions.

The Election Commission has said that voting will continue until 5 pm today.
